This poignant and humourous musical is based on the award winning Teleplay of the same name about three European girls from different backgrounds who begin life anew in post war Canada. Val, the British sophisticate is transplanted into the backwoods of Saskatchewan to be with her husband Brett, has to deal with the hardships of living on a farm, and a husband who is torn between her and the girl he left behind. Ellie, the Scottish nurse, arrives in Montreal to find that her husband has deserted her. Alone in Montreal, she pretends to still be married, while being wooed by her coworker, an older French Doctor. The German girl Lisa, has to deal with a new kind of bigotry in Nova Scotia. The women deal with the hardships of moving to a new environment and the lies that ensue.
